How do categories work?
Categories form part of the information architecture of your sites. All structured content are organized in categories and tags.
Each content item can have one category and multiple tags. Both categories and tags are used to create filters and group content items in different ways such as using Liquid Markup in your views to show only certain content with a specific category.
When you associate a content item with a category the URL generated may look something like this:
Category = "News"
https://www.modyo.com/news/posts/ with "News" being the category that will show all the posts with the category "News".
Categories permit sub categories. You can create a main category and multiple sub categories. However the structured content will only be associated with one category or sub category.
- Go to Site > Settings > Categories and click on + New in the top right corner.
- Create a category Title and the category path. By default a category with two words would generate a path /word1-word2.
- Select Parent Category to create a sub category.
- Provide a Description and click Save. The description is only visible in the back end.
You can Edit or Delete a category by selecting the 3 dots .
Note: When deleting a category, all sub categories will also be deleted. The content items will not be deleted and will not have any category associated.
